Put Another Shrimp On The Barbey

(a Dumb and Dumber reference)

We had spectacular weather for the 5 hour drive from Florence to Innsbruck. Clear and sunny, not too cold. What a blessing because the forecast called for snow and rain. The scenery was beautiful. Especially as we began climbing into the Alps. It was one little village after another hugging the mountainside with a church and a castle looking over the homes below. The pictures just don't do it justice. Innsbruck is particularly picturesque it is nestled in a valley surrounded by towering mountains covered in snow.

Let me take a moment to comment on Italian drivers. Oh my heck! They have never even HEARD of a turn signal and the lines on the highway are merely a suggestion because half the time they don't bother to pick a lane. It was a bit stressful getting out of the city and on the mountain roads. The highways are well maintained and nice and straight with tunnels going through the mountains instead of winding around them. They are also expensive $40 in tolls.

Our hotel is in the heart of the old city covered with narrow cobblestone streets and old buildings. The Hotel Goldener Adler, is 600 years old. Mozart stayed here four times! I know this because he left me a letter in the room saying so along with "Mozartkugel" candies. The place is very cozy and traditionally furnished.

I do have an issue with the bathroom. I mean really, why can't these europeans figure out the whole bathroom thing. We don't even have a real door on the bathroom and the shower looks like a transporter pod. I wouldn't mind if it transported me to a decent sized bathtub!

It doesn't exactly feel like my Birthday because my family isn't with me. But it was a nice day and we are going to a nice traditional restaurant for dinner. It is a shame we are only here for the night the place is so charming.
